A man in China has gone viral after he was seen casually lying on a sofa playing with his phone while floodwaters submerged the ground floor of his home during heavy rain.
According to mainland Chinese media reports, the bizarre incident happened recently in Chuzhou, Anhui province, after torrential rain caused severe flooding in the area.
Videos circulating online showed floodwater rising deep inside the house, soaking furniture and household items, while the homeowner remained remarkably calm throughout the chaos.
Instead of panicking, the man was seen relaxing on a sofa and scrolling through his phone as water surrounded him.
His wife, identified as Ms Wang, later revealed that when she woke up in the early morning and saw the situation, she felt both angry and amused by her husband’s reaction.
Rather than dealing with the flood immediately, she reportedly decided to go back to sleep.
Several hours later, the floodwaters eventually receded, but significant damage had already been done to the house.
According to Ms Wang, mattresses, sofas and electrical appliances inside the home were all soaked and damaged by the water.
The unusual reaction from the couple quickly became a hot topic online, with many netizens joking about the husband’s incredibly relaxed attitude despite the disaster unfolding around him.
One user commented: “As long as your mindset is good, everywhere can become the Maldives.”
Another wrote: “You can tell immediately this man isn’t short of money.”
Others praised the couple’s mentality, with one netizen saying: “Their emotional stability is truly impressive.”
Another joked: “He may look calm on the outside, but deep down he probably already gave up.”
The viral incident has since amused social media users across China, with many saying the man’s laid-back reaction perfectly captured the phrase: “Stay calm even when disaster strikes.”
