Police have arrested a 32-year-old man suspected of abusing his stepchild, following a report lodged by the child’s mother.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus said officers detained the suspect on Dec 20, 2025. He was subsequently charged at the Kuala Lumpur Court on Dec 26.
According to Fadil, police received a report on Dec 19 from the victim’s 27-year-old mother after she discovered several video recordings allegedly showing the suspect physically and mentally abusing the child at their home in Setapak.
“The complainant had viewed multiple recordings depicting the suspect committing both mental and physical abuse against the victim,” he said in a statement.
The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001.

The video triggered public outrage and renewed calls for vigilance in reporting suspected child abuse cases.
