A 37-year-old man dressed in a cartoon costume pleaded guilty at the Sessions Court on Thursday to a charge of sexually assaulting a six-year-old girl.
The accused, Mohd Fariz Ibrahim, entered the plea after the charge was read before Judge Nik Habri Muhamad.
According to the charge sheet, he is accused of hugging and touching the genitals of the child at Pantai Irama Playground in Bachok at around 6.20pm on September 11.
The offence falls under Section 14(a) of Malaysia’s Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison and caning upon conviction.
The court denied bail and set October 23 for the next mention of the case.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Faiz Fitri Mohamad handled the prosecution, while the accused was unrepresented.
