A man has been sentenced to 12 months’ jail by the Magistrates’ Court after he admitted to punching his wife in the face following anger over losing a smartphone game.
Magistrate Ling Hui Chuan delivered the sentence on Naszuan Morni, 35, after he pleaded guilty to a charge under Section 323 of the Penal Code, read together with Section 326A of the same law.
The court heard that the incident occurred at a house in Petra Jaya around 11pm on March 20, when Naszuan assaulted his 33-year-old wife during a domestic dispute.
Based on case facts, the accused punched the victim twice on her right eye, causing her pain. A medical examination at Sarawak General Hospital later confirmed injuries to her face.
Investigations revealed that the assault took place after Naszuan became enraged over losing a game on his smartphone. He had also been asked to care for their child while his wife was occupied with household chores, which escalated into an argument before the attack occurred.
The victim lodged a police report a week later, leading to Naszuan’s arrest on March 29.
Prosecution was conducted by Insp Nur Shafiqa Nyaie Ilin, while the accused was unrepresented during proceedings.
