Man Reporting Lost MyKad Turns Fugitive After Police Discover He’s Wanted

Date:

A 36-year-old Malaysian man had a routine visit to the Pantai Police Station to report his lost MyKad—but things took a dramatic turn when police discovered he was on their wanted list.

Brickfields district police chief Hoo Chang Hook told Harian Metro that during the MyKad check, officers found the man was wanted under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952. Upon learning this, the man fled the station, colliding with an officer during his escape.

Several officers pursued him, and he was eventually apprehended near a riverbank close to a hotel. He has admitted to obstructing a public servant and will face investigation under Section 186 of the Penal Code.

Investigation papers are set to be referred to the Kuala Lumpur Deputy Public Prosecutor’s Office tomorrow (Dec 18), with charges expected to be filed for both the escape incident and the original drug-related case.
