Man Throws Bomb Into Brother-In-Law’s House During Lunar New Year, 10 Injured

A shocking attack marred the Lunar New Year celebrations in Thanh Hoa, Vietnam, on 18 February when a man allegedly hurled a bomb into his brother-in-law’s house, injuring ten people.

The explosion took place around 6.45pm at the home of Mr Lê Thế Hưng in the Bac Hai residential area, as the family gathered to celebrate Tết, Vietnam’s Lunar New Year festival. Among the injured was the homeowner’s pregnant daughter-in-law.

All victims were rushed to Hop Luc International General Hospital, with four sustaining serious injuries requiring surgery to remove shrapnel. Authorities confirmed that none are currently in life-threatening condition.

Police quickly identified the suspect as Kiều Văn Thanh, the brother-in-law of the homeowner. Investigators from the Thanh Hoa Provincial Police, led by Major General To Anh Dung and Colonel Nguyen Anh Tuấn, secured the scene and launched a full investigation. Early reports indicate the suspect committed suicide following the incident.

The attack has shocked local residents and cast a shadow over the traditionally festive holiday. Authorities continue to investigate the motive behind the explosion and assess the circumstances surrounding the improvised explosive device.
