In New Taipei City’s Zhonghe district, a man surnamed You caused a midnight scare when he set off firecrackers around 3 a.m. today (13th), disturbing many residents from their sleep. Local police responded to complaints and promptly took You into custody.
Authorities learned that the 58-year-old man, reportedly intoxicated at the time, acted out of frustration after a recent theft complaint he filed was dismissed without prosecution. Police confirmed that after questioning, the case will be referred to the New Taipei City Fire Department for further action under Article 29 of the Firecracker and Fireworks Management Act and Article 9 of the city’s Firecracker and Fireworks Control Regulations.
According to reports, the Zhonghe Police Precinct received calls about the loud explosions along Zhongxiao Street. Officers arrived at the scene, found You setting off the firecrackers in an open area, and brought him in for questioning.
You admitted that his actions were motivated by anger over the unresolved theft complaint, saying he purchased the firecrackers to vent his frustration. The authorities will handle the legal consequences in accordance with local firework regulations.
