Man With Extensive Criminal History Held Over Jewellery Theft Case

A man with 20 prior criminal records has been arrested for allegedly being involved in a snatch theft case involving a gold necklace worth RM14,000 at Taman Connaught, Cheras, on April 12.

Cheras district police chief ACP Rosdi Daud said the local man, in his 30s, was detained during a raid in Bandar Kinrara, Puchong, Selangor on May 24 following intelligence gathering and surveillance by police.

He said the incident occurred at about 8am at a kopitiam, where the victim was having breakfast with his wife outside the restaurant when the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, approached.

The suspect then allegedly snatched the victim’s gold chain and pendant before fleeing the scene.

The victim reportedly suffered losses estimated at RM14,000.

Acting on further information, police later conducted another operation at about 2.30pm along Jalan Kinrara 6, where the suspect was successfully detained.

Checks revealed that the suspect had 20 previous criminal records and four drug-related offences.

The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code for robbery.

Police confirmed that the suspect’s remand application was rejected and he was released on police bail, while the investigation paper has been completed for further action.
