Missing Man Found Dead, Buried Near Rubber Estate

Date:

A man reported missing since last Saturday was found dead on Tuesday afternoon after his body was discovered buried near a rubber estate worker’s home in Kampung Kitung, Keningau.

The victim, identified as 30-year-old Abdul Hafiz, was found around 6:25 p.m. following excavation work after several items were discovered not far from the location.

Keningau District Police Chief, Superintendent Yampil Anak Garai, said the search was conducted by the Forensic D10 team from the Criminal Investigation Department (JSJ) at the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters.

Among the items recovered by police before the body was found was a motorcycle, located near the rubber estate in Kampung Kitung.

“Preliminary investigations indicate that on 20 September, the victim, a Pakistani national, informed a friend, who later lodged the report, that he planned to meet someone in Kampung Meninipir and left on a motorcycle. He could not be contacted afterward,” said Superintendent Yampil.

The following morning, the victim’s friend received a photo message from Abdul Hafiz’s phone showing his last known location near Jalan Mangkalias, Tenom. A search conducted on 22 September at the site led to the recovery of the victim’s mobile phone.

The search continued the next day in Kampung Kitung with the help of the victim’s friends, leading to the discovery of several items, including clothing, a motorcycle, and a parang hidden in a white sack. These were found near a newly dug mound of soil, which ultimately led to the discovery of the victim’s body.
