A motorcyclist was killed while another sustained injuries after their motorcycles collided with a cow that suddenly crossed the road along the Alor Gajah–Melaka Tengah–Jasin (AMJ) Highway in Serkam late last night.
Jasin district police chief Superintendent Lee Robert said authorities received a report of the incident at about 11pm. Initial investigations found that the crash involved two 25-year-old men who were riding separate motorcycles from Merlimau towards Jasin.
“Both motorcyclists were travelling in the same direction when a cow abruptly crossed the highway. The riders were unable to avoid the animal, resulting in a collision that caused them to lose control and skid into the left side of the road,” he said in a statement today.
One of the riders suffered severe injuries to his body and arms and was pronounced dead at the scene. The second motorcyclist sustained facial injuries and was rushed to Melaka Hospital for further treatment.
Police are investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
