A motorcyclist suffered serious injuries after he was reportedly struck by a train while allegedly urinating near railway tracks along Kamphaeng Phet 7 Road in the Makkasan area on Monday.
According to a report by Thai PBS, the incident happened about 800 metres before the Asoke railway crossing in Bangkok’s Ratchathewi district.
A witness identified as Sunan said he was buying food near the scene when he suddenly heard a vendor shouting warnings about an approaching train.
He claimed he then saw the victim standing beside the railway tracks while apparently trying to zip up his trousers before attempting to warn him about the incoming train.
However, the victim reportedly did not react at all.
“The train driver had already sounded the warning horn from quite a distance away, but the victim still did not move before he was hit,” Sunan said.
The witness added that he and another vendor immediately rushed over to assist the injured man after the collision.
They later discovered that the victim was wearing both a full-face helmet and earphones during the incident, leading to suspicions that he may not have heard the train horn.
Authorities believe the man, who is understood to be a motorcyclist, had stopped near the railway area for personal reasons before the train approached.
Meanwhile, Makkasan Police Station traffic deputy inspector Lieutenant Chanach Prada said the train driver stopped the train immediately after the incident and is fully cooperating with police investigations.
The shocking accident has also sparked discussions online about public safety awareness near railway tracks, especially involving the use of earphones and limited hearing while close to active train routes.
