M’sian Woman Alleges Stepfather Filed Legal Claim Over Assets as Mother Battles Brain Cancer

Date:

A woman has taken to social media to allege that her stepfather attempted to claim her mother’s assets while the latter was still alive and battling terminal brain cancer.

In an anonymous post shared on X, the woman said her mother was diagnosed with end-stage brain cancer, prompting her to take unpaid leave from work to become her full-time caregiver.

She claimed that throughout the caregiving period, her mother’s funds were used strictly for medical needs and daily necessities, adding that she did not take any money for personal use.

According to the woman, her stepfather was absent during her mother’s illness and did not assist in caregiving. However, he allegedly resurfaced by filing a legal notice asserting his claim over her mother’s assets.

The woman said she was devastated by the move, describing it as emotionally crushing while she continued to watch her mother suffer.

“My heart is shattered. My mother hasn’t even passed away yet. Every day I cry watching her suffer in pain while waiting for time to pass,” she wrote.

The post triggered strong reactions online, with many netizens criticising the stepfather’s alleged actions and accusing him of being motivated by greed.

Some urged the woman to expose him publicly, while others advised her to seek legal assistance and explore asset protection options such as hibah. Several also recommended that she keep all receipts related to caregiving expenses in case she needs to defend herself legally.
