A video circulating on social media has sparked widespread discussion after a suspected “pocong-like” figure was reportedly seen standing along a rural road in South Kalimantan, Indonesia, late at night.
According to Indonesian news outlet Jejak Rekam, the incident is said to have occurred in the Hulu Sungai Utara area, between Loksuga and Pihaung villages.
The footage, uploaded by Instagram account @radarbanjarmsin, shows a dark, poorly lit road with a motionless white figure standing by the roadside. Locals described it as resembling a “pocong”, a well-known figure in Indonesian and Malay folklore.
Following the clip’s circulation, some residents claimed they were frightened when passing through the area, with motorists reportedly speeding away or turning back to avoid the location.
However, the identity of the figure remains unverified, with no confirmation whether it was a person, a prank, or something else. The claims are currently based on public speculation and eyewitness accounts.
The incident has also triggered mixed reactions online, with some questioning the lack of street lighting, while others dismissed it as fear-driven interpretation. In regional folklore, a pocong is described as a shrouded corpse wrapped in white cloth, often associated with ghost stories.
Authorities have not issued any official statement regarding the viral clip.
