A 28-year-old p-hailing rider died several hours after his motorcycle was involved in a collision with a Perodua Kancil at Jalan Simpang Kampung Bunsadan yesterday.
The victim, Mohd Shahriman Basman, suffered severe head injuries after the car allegedly exited a junction and moved into his path.
He was rushed to Kota Marudu Hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead about four hours later.
Initial police investigations found that the Perodua Kancil was driven by a 68-year-old woman who is believed to have failed to give way before the collision occurred.
The woman was not injured in the incident.
Police have detained the driver to assist investigations under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for reckless or dangerous driving causing death.
The fatal accident has once again highlighted growing concerns over road safety involving motorcyclists and p-hailing riders, who face daily risks while working on busy roads.
