A Pakistani man was killed while his compatriot was seriously injured after the Perodua Aruz they were traveling in crashed into the wall of the Sungai Dua Toll Plaza on the North-South Expressway (PLUS) last night.
Penang Fire and Rescue Department’s Assistant Director of Operations, John Sagun Francis, said they received an emergency call at 10:43pm.
“The incident involved two Pakistani nationals who were trapped in the driver and passenger seats of a Perodua Aruz that lost control and collided with the toll plaza wall.
“The first victim, who was in the passenger seat, was rescued by members of the public before firefighters arrived and was rushed to Seberang Jaya Hospital (HSJ).
“The second victim, the driver, was extracted at 11:15pm by firefighters using specialized equipment but was pronounced dead at the scene,” he said in a statement today.
Authorities have yet to identify the man who died, while the injured passenger has been named as 42-year-old Zafar Iqbal.
