The activities of three men believed to be involved in stealing telecommunication cables at the rear of a golf club in Brinchang were uncovered after they were arrested by police during Op Tapis in the early hours of yesterday.
Cameron Highlands district police chief Superintendent Azri Ramli said all three suspects, including two local men aged between 41 and 46, were detained at about 3.40am.
He said the arrest was made by a team from the District Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (BSJND), Cameron Highlands District Police Headquarters, which was conducting Op Tapis along Jalan Griddle, Brinchang.
“During patrols, police came across a man seen tampering with telecommunication cables, while two others were standing by the roadside near a black Toyota Camry at the scene,” he said.
Further inspection of the suspects and the vehicle led to the discovery of several tools believed to be used in cable theft, as well as several rolls of cables suspected to be stolen.
He added that police also seized a glass tube containing crystalline substances believed to be methamphetamine, weighing 2.87 grams.
“Preliminary urine tests found all three suspects tested positive for methamphetamine,” he said.
All suspects have been remanded to assist investigations under Section 379 of the Penal Code, Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, and Section 15(1)(a) of the same Act.
