Police Bust Prison-Formed Syndicate Behind Trailer Hijackings and Vehicle Theft

Date:

A chance meeting behind bars led six former inmates to form what police believe is the most active cargo-robbery syndicate in Pahang. According to Pahang deputy police chief Datuk Azry Akmar Ayob, the group, known as “Geng Bhai”, continued committing crimes even while its leader—a 56-year-old man—was still under parole supervision.

The gang is suspected to have carried out two trailer hijackings involving steel and electrical cables, along with five cases of forklift and vehicle theft across the state. The total losses are estimated to exceed RM600,000. Azry said intelligence findings showed the suspects formed their network while serving prison sentences and resumed their activities soon after being released.

Despite being on parole until March 2026, the leader allegedly rebuilt the syndicate by recruiting new members, many of whom had previous criminal and drug-related records. Police later launched Op Kargo, conducting a series of arrests between Nov 21 and 29 in Senawang, Klang and Bentong. The suspects detained range in age from 24 to 56.

Following the arrests, police seized several vehicles including forklifts, tow trucks and cars, as well as various tools believed to be used in the crimes such as metal and cable cutters. Investigators said the group admitted involvement in eight robbery and vehicle-theft cases in both Pahang and Selangor.

The syndicate’s modus operandi involved targeting lorry drivers who had stopped by the roadside to rest. The suspects would tie up and blindfold the driver before taking the victim to a secluded area. The drivers were left abandoned at isolated spots while the lorries and their cargo were transported to a rented off-loading site outside Pahang.

Police are now searching for three remaining members still at large: Kishan Singh Kretar Singh, 41, from Rawang; Muhammad Farhan Subri, 23, from Bedong, Kedah; and another man known only as Raja.

Azry urged lorry drivers to remain vigilant and only stop at safe, designated areas to reduce the risk of becoming targets. The case is being investigated under Sections 395 and 379A of the Penal Code.
