Prosecution Drops Appeal, Zayn Rayyan’s Father Remains Free

Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, the father of deceased autistic boy Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin, remains a free man after the prosecution withdrew its appeal against his acquittal on a charge of neglect involving the six-year-old.

Zaim’s lawyer, Haresh Mahadevan, said the prosecution informed High Court judge Suriyati Hasimah Mohd Hashim during proceedings today that it would not proceed with the appeal.

The appeal was filed against a decision by the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on July 21 last year, which acquitted and discharged Zaim of a charge under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for allegedly neglecting his son.
