A 32-year-old man accused of kidnapping a six-year-old girl in Iskandar Puteri, Johor, last July was charged in the Sessions Court today with sexually assaulting another child last week.
Leang Win Son pleaded not guilty in Mandarin before Judge Madihah Zainol to sexually assaulting a nine-year-old girl in a coffee shop toilet at Taman Iris, Kulai, around 7:30 pm on September 14. He faces charges under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 (Act 792), which carries up to 20 years’ imprisonment and whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Nur Farah Wahida Shahudin opposed bail, noting that Leang is already facing trial under Sections 363 and 346 of the Penal Code for kidnapping and Section 15(a)(ii) of Act 792 for non-physical sexual assault, dating back to August 7, 2024. He had also pleaded guilty in July to five charges of possessing child pornography under Section 10 of Act 792.
National Legal Aid Foundation lawyer Nur Zafirah Norizan requested bail and a mental health evaluation for Leang, noting he works for his mother earning RM50 a day and has cooperated with authorities in previous cases.
The court denied bail and set the next mention for October 6.
