RM6.2 Million Marijuana Seized in Kuala Perlis Smuggling Bust!

Date:

The Royal Malaysian Customs Department has thwarted an attempt to smuggle 67.48kg of marijuana flowers, worth an estimated RM6.2 million, near the Tambak Persisiran Pantai Bukit Putih area in Kuala Perlis last month.

Kedah Customs director Wan Marini Wan Hamzah said the operation, based on intelligence, was carried out around 10pm by officers from the Langkawi Marine Enforcement Branch together with the elite Customs Operational Battle Force Response Assault (COBRA) team.

“Authorities discovered an abandoned wooden boat carrying four gunny sacks labeled in Thai. Upon inspection, the sacks were found to contain a large quantity of marijuana flowers weighing 67.48kg, valued at RM6,209,816,” she said in a statement.

Wan Marini added that the drugs were believed to have been smuggled in from a neighboring country via the wooden boat. The case is being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking.

She also urged the public to continue supporting Customs in combating smuggling activities involving cigarettes, alcohol, fireworks, drugs, and vehicles, noting that such crimes not only result in significant financial losses but also pose serious threats to national security and public safety.
