Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) has taken immediate action to stop the broadcast of the animated series Cleopatra in Space after receiving complaints from viewers alleging the presence of LGBT-related elements.
In a statement, the public broadcaster said the series had aired on TV2 on April 18 and 19 at 9am before the decision was made to discontinue its screening.
RTM added that following the feedback received, it has launched an internal review and decided to completely halt the airing of the programme with immediate effect.
The broadcaster emphasised its commitment to ensuring all content complies with local cultural norms, religious sensitivities, and quality standards expected by Malaysian audiences.
RTM also expressed appreciation to viewers who provided feedback, stating that such input is important in maintaining the quality and suitability of its programming. It was also noted that another animated series, Santiago of the Seas, had previously been suspended for similar reasons following public complaints.
