Meta To Track Employee Computer Activity To Train AI Agents

Date:

Meta is reportedly rolling out a new internal system that monitors employee computer activity to help train its artificial intelligence agents.

The tool, known as the Model Capability Initiative (MCI), is installed on work devices used by US-based staff and records mouse movements, clicks, keyboard inputs, and occasional screenshots while employees carry out work-related tasks.

According to reports, the collected data will be used to improve Meta’s AI systems so they can better replicate how humans interact with computers, including performing everyday workplace functions such as navigating software and completing digital tasks.

Meta said safeguards are in place to protect sensitive information and stressed that the data will not be used for employee performance evaluations. The company also noted that the goal is to build AI agents capable of handling routine work with human users shifting towards supervision and guidance.

However, the initiative has reportedly sparked internal concern among employees, with some expressing unease over privacy and the lack of an opt-out option on company-issued devices.
