A Sabah politician who molested a contestant in the 2021 Unduk Ngadau beauty pageant has been sentenced to a total of 43 months in prison and fined RM14,000.
Magistrate Marilyn Kelvin handed down the sentence to Phillip Among, 53, after finding him guilty on all four charges brought against him.
The court ruled that the defence had failed to raise any reasonable doubt, concluding that the prosecution had proven its case beyond a reasonable doubt.
At the time of the offences, Phillip was serving as the technical head of the Unduk Ngadau competition. He was convicted under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which covers outrage of modesty and carries penalties of up to 10 years’ imprisonment, a fine, whipping, or a combination of these punishments.
