A fire broke out in the early hours of the morning, destroying around 30 non-permanent homes across a 3.5-acre area at a village located behind PPH along Jalan Bokara, Karamunting, Sandakan, Sabah.
Fire and Rescue Department personnel received an emergency call at 3.16am and immediately mobilised 21 firefighters to the scene. They were supported by multiple agencies, including police, Civil Defence Force teams and local volunteers who assisted in controlling the situation.
The fire was successfully brought under control by 4.29am, and fortunately no casualties were reported in the incident.
Firefighters used water from fire engines as well as nearby hydrants to contain the blaze, and managed to prevent it from spreading to approximately 100 nearby houses, avoiding what could have been a larger disaster.
The operation was fully concluded at 7.01am, while authorities continue to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the total losses involved.
The incident comes just 11 days after another major fire destroyed about 1,000 homes in Kampung Bahagia, located roughly 10 kilometres away in the same region, raising concerns over recurring fire risks in the area.
