Search Continues For Worker Who Fell Into River In Sand Extraction Incident

A 42-year-old Indonesian man has been reported missing after he was believed to have fallen into a river at Kampung Paka-Paka.

The incident is believed to have occurred at about 6pm yesterday while the victim was involved in a sand extraction activity using a tug boat.

Kota Belud Fire and Rescue Station chief Elge Bakuk said his department received an emergency call regarding the incident at 8.58pm before a team was deployed to the location.

He said search and rescue (SAR) operations resumed at 8am on Friday with assistance from the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and the Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM).

Search efforts are being conducted at the victim’s last known location using surface water search techniques, along with sweeps along the riverbank.

As of now, the victim has not been found and SAR operations are still ongoing.

Authorities said any further developments will be announced from time to time.
