Security Guard Fined RM6,000 for Posing as Police Officer in Shocking Jalan Bendahara Scam

Date:

A 51-year-old security guard, Saril Ismail, was fined RM6,000 by the Magistrate’s Court here for impersonating a police officer during an incident last Sunday. Magistrate Sharda Shienha Mohd Suleiman ruled that Saril would serve five months in jail if he fails to pay the fine.

The offence occurred at Jalan Bendahara at 2.54 pm on February 1. Saril was charged under Section 170 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum of two years’ imprisonment, a fine, or both.

According to case details, the victim was cycling when a man dressed in black approached, claiming to be a police officer. Saril reportedly seized the victim’s bag, checked its contents, and took RM720 in cash. Suspecting foul play, the victim lodged a police report.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Syaza Nur Sharif handled the prosecution, while Saril was represented by Muhammad Izzuddin Ab Malek from the National Legal Aid Foundation.

Earlier reports revealed that police had arrested a father-and-son duo linked to the impersonation and robbery. Central Melaka Police Chief ACP Christopher Patit confirmed that the 51-year-old father and his 25-year-old son were taken into custody on February 1 and 2.
