Suria KLCC Clarifies Security Measures After Viral Video of Activist Incident

Date:

Suria KLCC has clarified that the recent incident involving a security officer preventing a visitor from bringing a long stick into the shopping mall was part of standard safety procedures.

In a statement, the mall management explained that such rules are applied to all visitors to ensure safety and comfort within the premises.

“This action is in line with our safety protocols, which prohibit items that may pose a security risk or disturb the comfort of other visitors. We want to emphasize that this is a routine security measure applied equally to everyone and is not politically motivated,” the statement posted on Facebook read.

The clarification comes after a video circulated online showing a brief interaction between the mall security and visitors at one of the entrances. The footage featured humanitarian activist and former Batu MP, Tian Chua, along with several activists carrying Palestinian flags, being directed to leave the mall.

The group had reportedly just participated in a peaceful solidarity gathering for Palestine in the city before stopping by Suria KLCC. In the video, they were seen chanting slogans in support of Palestine while holding flags before being approached by security personnel.

Suria KLCC stressed that community safety and well-being remain their top priority. “We greatly appreciate the cooperation and understanding of the public as we work to maintain a safe and orderly environment for everyone,” the management added.
