A man created chaos at the Madanayakanahalli police station after allegedly swallowing a locker key while being questioned over the disappearance of a 17-year-old girl.
The suspect, identified as Karthik, also known as Ramu from Ballari, was arrested after police tracked him using mobile tower location data following a missing persons report lodged by the victim’s parents on April 24.
According to police, the incident occurred while investigators were interrogating the suspect in connection with the disappearance of a teenage girl from Gangondanahalli.
Officers said the suspect suddenly swallowed a locker key after being warned that he could face action under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
In an unusual attempt to retrieve the object, the suspect was reportedly given nearly 10 kilograms of bananas to help pass the key naturally.
The incident caused panic inside the police station, prompting authorities to rush him to a private hospital for medical treatment.
Police said the suspect remained under medical care at the hospital for three days under tight security supervision.
The key was eventually recovered through his stool late at night, according to officials handling the case.
