A British teenager has been sentenced to life imprisonment after admitting to the brutal killing of his stepfather in a violent knife attack that shocked the Derbyshire community.
The victim, 57-year-old Christopher Owen, was found dead at his home on October 22, 2025, after armed police responded to an emergency call. Officers discovered he had suffered more than 70 stab and slash wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Nearby, the family’s Jack Russell terrier was also found dead from multiple stab wounds, according to Derbyshire Constabulary, which led the investigation.
The defendant, 19-year-old Logan Procter, later confessed to the killings during a call to police after returning from the scene, having reportedly showered and changed clothes beforehand. He was arrested the same evening and later pleaded guilty in court on April 17.
During proceedings, the court heard disturbing details of the attack, including evidence that Procter had compiled lists of people he intended to harm, referred to by prosecutors as “kill lists,” which included family members, colleagues and others known to him.
Medical evidence presented in court showed the attack lasted between five and seven minutes, with Christopher suffering catastrophic injuries, particularly to the head, face and neck. Prosecutors said the force used was so severe that parts of the victim’s spine were damaged.
Procter also admitted to attacking the family dog during the incident, telling police he believed the act would feel like a “thrill” but later said it did not meet his expectations. He has never provided a clear motive for the killings.
Psychiatric assessments revealed that he has since been diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, a mood disorder and a borderline learning disability. Despite these findings, he was sentenced to life imprisonment and will serve a minimum of 20 years before being considered for parole.
In a victim impact statement read in court, the victim’s partner, Allison Owen, described the emotional devastation caused by the tragedy, saying she had lost both her partner and her son in the same act of violence.
She paid tribute to Christopher as a kind and loyal man, adding that the family had expected many more years together before the devastating incident.
Investigating officer Detective Inspector Kane Martin of Derbyshire Constabulary said the case had deeply affected the victim’s family and praised their resilience throughout the legal process. He added that while Procter accepted responsibility for the killing, he never offered an explanation, leaving the motive unknown.
Authorities described the attack as a planned and exceptionally violent act against an entirely innocent victim.
