Teen Victim Of Alleged Bullying In Damansara School Seeks Justice After 15-Month Delay

Date:

Police are expected to decide this week whether to press charges in a bullying and extortion case involving a 16-year-old student at a school in Damansara, following claims of prolonged inaction since the matter was first reported 15 months ago.

The teenager, who has since transferred to a vocational diploma programme earlier this year, said he had already given two statements to police and identified several students he alleges assaulted him and took his money.

“I want action taken against the boys who bullied me, but there has only been silence on the case,” he told FMT.

When contacted, the investigating officer from the Mutiara Damansara police station confirmed that the investigation paper has been submitted to the Attorney-General’s Chambers. He added that a decision on whether the case will proceed to court is expected within the week.

The teenager claimed the alleged bullying had affected his physical wellbeing and participation in sports activities. He also alleged that the abuse began on his first day at school in February last year.

In earlier reports, the student said he was repeatedly targeted by four older schoolmates who allegedly extorted money from him and assaulted him during school recess near a staircase.

He claimed that on one occasion, a Form Five student grabbed his shirt, demanded money and punched his arm after receiving RM5. On another day, the same student allegedly punched his other arm and took RM8 while issuing a threat not to inform his father.

“If you tell your father, I will smash your face,” the teenager alleged the student said.

The boy’s father later lodged a police report after noticing bruises on his son’s arms. A meeting between parents and school authorities was also held, during which the accused students reportedly admitted to the assaults.

The teenager said the students were suspended for two weeks in April last year, but no further disciplinary or legal action has since been taken.

“One of them apologised, but the others still refuse to admit they were wrong,” he said. “I’m angry because no action has been taken. Why haven’t they been charged in court?”
