Three Johor Men Arrested For Cannabis After Returning From Thailand Trip

The National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) has detained three men from Johor who tested positive for cannabis after returning from a trip to Thailand.

Kedah AADK director Khairul Anwar Ahmad said the 23-year-olds were apprehended at around 3 pm yesterday during an operation at the Immigration, Customs, Quarantine, and Security (ICQS) Complex, conducted in conjunction with New Year 2026.

The men had traveled in a motorcycle convoy from Johor to Koh Samui on December 28, but returned urgently following the death of one of their fathers. Khairul Anwar said the men made a brief stop in Hat Yai, where they are believed to have consumed the prohibited substance.

During the operation, which began at 6 am, authorities inspected 15 cars and 25 motorcycles. Urine screenings were conducted on 30 individuals, 13 of whom, aged between 18 and 39, tested positive for drugs.

In addition, a teenager who had recently completed the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examination was detained after testing positive for MDMA (ecstasy) following his return from Danok.

All detainees are being held under Section 3(1)(a) of the Drug Dependants (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983.
