“Too Many Cars, Forgot Renew”: Luxury Car Owners Busted In Setia Alam Over Expired Road Tax Excuses

Date:

Five luxury car drivers attempted to justify their offences with excuses such as forgetting renewal dates and owning too many vehicles, after they were detained during an enforcement operation in Setia Alam on Wednesday.

The operation, carried out along Persiaran Setia Perdana, ran from 10.56am until 1.27pm and resulted in the arrest of five men aged between 30 and 63. Authorities flagged the vehicles as they were travelling towards Setia Alam and Section 7 before pulling them over for inspection.

Selangor Road Transport Department (JPJ) director Azrin Borhan revealed that the vehicles involved were high-end models, including BMW, Mini Countryman, Denza, Tesla and Toyota Alphard, highlighting a growing concern that even luxury vehicle owners are not exempt from compliance failures.

Checks found that all five vehicles had road tax that had expired between one and two years, with none carrying valid insurance coverage. Some drivers claimed financial constraints, while others cited being too busy or unaware due to owning multiple vehicles.

Further investigations also uncovered that one of the vehicles belonged to a company linked to one of the drivers. Additionally, two of the individuals were found to have prior offences recorded with JPJ, suggesting repeated non-compliance.

All vehicles have since been seized and transported to the JPJ Shah Alam office for further action. Authorities stressed that enforcement operations will continue to be intensified to ensure motorists adhere to road regulations, noting that negligence — regardless of status — will not be tolerated.
