A woman in her 70s expressed dissatisfaction after religious enforcement officers raided her home in Sungai Seluang at about 12.50am on Sunday, following a public complaint.
Kulim District Religious Enforcement Officer Anwar Sharifudin Mat Saad said the woman questioned the officers’ actions during the operation.
He said when officers knocked, the woman opened the door and was found inside watching television with another individual in the living room.
“Further inspection led to the discovery of a teenage couple inside a bedroom,” he said.
The pair reportedly admitted they were not married and not mahram. The 17-year-old girl said her mother was aware they were in the room and did not object as they were allegedly not doing anything inappropriate.
Anwar added that the woman also questioned who had lodged the complaint that led to the raid.
Checks revealed that the 20-year-old man, originally from Penang, was recently unemployed and had been working at a workshop before losing his job.
The pair reportedly met about eight months ago via TikTok and communicated through Telegram. The man said he visited the girl’s home that night to help dye her hair and had frequently visited previously to deliver food and assist a friend’s mother.
The case is being investigated under Section 25(a)(b) of the Kedah Syariah Criminal Offences Enactment 2014 for suspected khalwat.
