Woman Charged After Assaulting A Pregnant Driver, An Elderly And Biting A Police Officer

Date:

A 37-year-old woman from Florida has been taken into custody following a chaotic series of assaults involving a pregnant driver, an elderly bystander, and a police officer. Mandolyn Shaffer-Brockwell was arrested on 23 February after allegedly causing a major traffic disruption near the Mall at Millenia in Orlando. The Orlando Police Department released footage of the incident on Friday, documenting a violent outburst that stemmed from a reported road rage dispute on a busy local thoroughfare.

The confrontation began when Shaffer-Brockwell reportedly jumped onto the bonnet of a white SUV before forcing the driver’s door open to attack the occupant. The victim, who remains unidentified, informed the suspect during the assault that she was pregnant and had a child inside the vehicle. According to police reports, the dispute escalated after the victim honked her horn, leading Shaffer-Brockwell to repeatedly brake suddenly and block the victim from changing lanes before eventually exiting her car to initiate the physical struggle.

A 68-year-old witness who attempted to intervene and assist the pregnant woman was also targeted during the rampage. Shaffer-Brockwell allegedly turned her aggression toward the elderly woman, screaming at her before clawing at her face. Footage of the attack showed the witness left with visible injuries and bloody marks beneath her eyes. Following the multiple assaults, the suspect fled the scene in her vehicle but was intercepted by law enforcement shortly thereafter.

During the attempted arrest, Shaffer-Brockwell reportedly displayed further violence and resisted the responding officer. As the officer attempted to secure her in handcuffs against a building, a physical scuffle ensued. During the struggle, the suspect allegedly bit the officer’s arm, ignoring commands to stop resisting. It took several additional officers to successfully subdue Shaffer-Brockwell and escort her into a patrol vehicle, where she appeared disoriented following the confrontation.

Shaffer-Brockwell is now facing multiple serious charges, including battery on a person aged 65 or older, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer, burglary of a conveyance, and resisting an officer with violence. According to jail records, she is currently being held on a RM4,200 (approx. $1,000) bond for each charge, excluding the burglary count. While the extent of the injuries sustained by the victims and the officer has not been fully disclosed, the investigation into the rampage remains active.
