A 46-year-old Chinese woman suffering from mental illness fell to her death from the 20th floor of a condominium in Farlim, Penang, this morning. Her husband witnessed the incident and was devastated, rushing to the ground floor but unable to save her in time.

The incident occurred around 9am. The victim, identified as Wong Cui Yu (transliteration), had been living in the unit with her husband for many years. Residents reported hearing a loud thud and later found her body at the base of the building, prompting them to call the police.
The grieving husband, who had just returned home from buying breakfast, said he was placing the food down when he saw his wife open the back window grill near the laundry area and jump. He tried to stop her, but it was already too late.
He immediately rushed downstairs and stayed beside her lifeless body, heartbroken, while waiting for police to arrive and carry out their investigation. Her body was later sent to the Penang General Hospital mortuary.
In an interview, the husband revealed that his wife had been battling mental illness for many years and was undergoing treatment and medication. Just the day before, she had shown suicidal tendencies but he managed to stop her.
Unfortunately, he could not stop her today.
Police are continuing their investigation into the case.
