Woman Killed, Baby Among Three Injured In Lahad Datu 4WD Crash

Date:

A woman was killed while three others, including an eight-month-old baby, were injured after a four-wheel drive vehicle they were travelling in skidded and crashed along Jalan Bukit Belacon Segama on Monday.

The incident, which occurred at about 4.30am, claimed the life of 29-year-old Nalma Ato, who was confirmed dead at the scene.

Three others, identified as Oden Amros, 42, Aiman Makmur, 25, and a baby girl known as Sartika, sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Lahad Datu Fire and Rescue Station chief Sumsoa Rashid said his team received an emergency call at 4.47am and deployed six personnel to the scene, located about 17 kilometres from the station.

“The accident involved a Toyota SR vehicle that lost control and crashed on its own. One victim was trapped inside the vehicle,” he said in a statement.

Firefighters used special rescue equipment to extricate the trapped victim, but medical personnel later confirmed that the woman had died at the scene.

Her body was handed over to police for further action.

The three injured survivors were sent to Lahad Datu Hospital for treatment and were reported to be in stable condition with minor injuries.

Authorities confirmed that the rescue operation ended after ensuring there were no further hazards at the crash site.
