An elderly woman sustained injuries following a small explosion caused by a leaking LPG gas hose at her home in Taman Alma this afternoon.
The incident, which occurred around 4:50 PM, left the 70-year-old victim with first-degree burns. She was taken to the hospital by family members before fire and rescue teams arrived at the scene.
John Sagun Francis, Deputy Director of Operations for the State Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), said a team from the Bukit Mertajam Fire and Rescue Station responded promptly after receiving an emergency call at 4:52 PM.
“Inspections revealed that a minor explosion occurred in the kitchen cabinet, caused by a leak in the LPG gas hose,” he said in a statement today.
The blast also caused minor structural damage to part of the kitchen.
“Firefighters then carried out ventilation work in the affected area before handing over the scene to the Fire Investigation Team for further action,” he added.
