A foreign nutrition expert recently shared a video on TikTok highlighting three key early warning signs of a stroke: drooping on one side of the face, weakness or inability to move the limbs, and slurred speech. Doctors also recommend that avoiding sugar and starch in your diet can be a smart way to reduce stroke risk.
Dr. Eric Berg, an intermittent fasting and raw food diet specialist, explained in the TikTok video that strokes may present with:
- Facial weakness: One side of the face may droop, making it difficult to smile.
- Limb weakness: Weakness or numbness in the arms or legs can prevent full movement or holding a raised position.
- Speech difficulties: Talking may become slurred or unclear.
Dr. Berg noted that strokes can lead to blood clots in the brain, placing significant pressure on the organ and potentially causing severe headaches and nausea. While such symptoms can sometimes be caused by stress, adrenaline, or cortisol, they are often related to blood clots and blood sugar levels. “If you want to prevent a stroke, avoiding sugar and starch in your diet is very wise,” he advised. Some patients may also experience repeated hiccups or chest pain caused by arterial blood clots before a stroke.
According to the UK’s National Health Service (NHS), there are seven warning signs of a stroke: weakness or numbness on one side of the body, blurred or lost vision in one or both eyes, difficulty speaking or finding words, confusion or memory loss, dizziness or falling, severe headache, and feeling sick or vomiting.
Stroke symptoms can sometimes disappear quickly, but anyone experiencing these signs should seek immediate medical attention. While the risk increases with age, strokes can occur at any age.
