A former US Military Academy cadet drugged his pregnant girlfriend with a sedative before secretly administering abortion medication without her consent, causing her to miscarry, according to court documents.
Caleb T. Suh, 25, has pleaded guilty to assault resulting in substantial bodily injury to a dating partner over the 2022 incident.
However, he is still facing a separate civil lawsuit accusing him of assault and battery, which was filed in the State Supreme Court in Manhattan on Wednesday.
The victim, identified only as Jane Doe, was a freshman at West Point when the alleged assault happened. Suh was a sophomore at the time.
According to his guilty plea, Suh encouraged his girlfriend to drink what he described as a “prenatal protein shake”, which he had secretly mixed with medication to sedate her.
He then waited for her to fall asleep before administering abortion pills that he had obtained from an online pharmacy by impersonating her.
“The next morning I learned that my girlfriend had been taken to the hospital where she, in fact, miscarried as a result of the abortion pills that I had administered without her knowledge and consent,” Suh said while entering his guilty plea.
The lawsuit provides further details of the alleged scheme, claiming Suh had initially opposed the pregnancy and threatened to kill himself if his girlfriend refused to terminate it.
The couple had started dating in 2020 while both were studying at West Point. Two years later, Doe became pregnant and told Suh that she wanted to keep the baby.
Suh allegedly created a fake account in her name to obtain Xanax and abortion medication from an online pharmacy.
He also allegedly impersonated her in the pharmacy’s online forum, asking questions about whether the medication could be crushed and mixed into water instead of swallowed.
The lawsuit claims Suh eventually forced his girlfriend to consume the drugged drink despite her being repulsed by its taste.
“She became sick and fell asleep. For the next few hours, she was in and out of consciousness with severe pain,” the lawsuit stated.
It further alleges that Suh then forced abortion medication into her vagina to ensure the pregnancy ended.
After regaining consciousness, Doe was reportedly bleeding heavily and became seriously ill before being taken to hospital.
Suh has already admitted to drugging his girlfriend and administering the abortion medication without her knowledge or consent.
He faces up to five years in prison following his guilty plea.
However, a judge has allowed his sentencing to be postponed until January so he can complete the academic semester at Columbia University, where he is currently pursuing a master’s degree.
The civil lawsuit against him over the alleged assault and battery remains ongoing.
