A supermarket owner narrowly escaped being crushed when a car suddenly reversed through the wall of his shop while he was restocking shelves in Adelaide, Australia.
CCTV footage captured the terrifying moment on Sunday, showing Marc Schirripa working inside the IGA supermarket when the vehicle crashed through the building.
The impact sent bricks and debris flying across the shop, destroying a row of hanging snack products just inches behind him.
Marc appeared stunned and motionless immediately after the collision, seemingly struggling to process what had just happened.
The supermarket later shared the footage on Facebook, joking in its caption: “No ordinary day at IGA Local Grocer Woodville.
“Aisle 4 just became the fast lane!”
Marc said he heard what felt like a “sonic boom” behind him when the car struck the building.
Describing the impact on Monday, he also compared it to a “big wave”, adding that he had “no idea what was happening at all”.
Despite the frightening close call, Marc escaped without serious injuries. Paramedics attended to him at the scene, but he was not taken to hospital.
Police confirmed that nobody inside the supermarket was seriously injured.
The driver, a 31-year-old woman from Woodville, was also unharmed. She was travelling with another woman, aged 29, who was also from Woodville.
The woman behind the wheel was issued a fine.
Marc had only bought the supermarket business a month before the crash.
He also expressed gratitude for the support he received from the local community following the incident.
“We’ve had our bad luck now, well our good luck’s coming,” he said.
“A lot of people just come in and say, are you okay? How’s everything going? So it’s been really good locally.”
Witness Douglas Schirripa said the footage had left people in the neighbourhood stunned.
“One of my mates who I sent it to said it was AI-generated, I said no, no, no it’s real,” he said.
