CCTV footage has captured the moment a 28-year-old driver allegedly fell asleep at the wheel and crashed into nearly 10 cars and motorcycles waiting at a red light in Pattaya, Thailand, injuring eight people.
The incident occurred at around 11.30pm on October 19, 2026, at the Pothisarn intersection along Pattaya-Naklua Road in Naklua, Bang Lamung district, Chonburi province.
Police Lieutenant Nattachat Chantrakrant, a deputy investigator at Pattaya City Police Station, received a report of the collision and coordinated with rescue workers from the Sawang Boriboon Thammasathan Foundation to assist those injured.
At the scene, damaged cars and motorcycles were scattered across the road, with debris strewn around the intersection. Bystanders helped remove injured people from the vehicles before rescue workers provided first aid and transported them to hospital. Eight people were injured in total.
Initial investigations identified a black Haval H6 driven by 28-year-old Denchai, whose surname was withheld, as the vehicle that triggered the chain collision. The driver sustained minor injuries.
Among the damaged vehicles were a white MG ZS, a white Toyota Yaris, a grey Honda Giorno, a Vespa scooter and a white Honda Wave 125i. Several other cars and motorcycles were also damaged.
Witnesses told police they had been waiting at the red light when the black Haval H6 approached without slowing down or braking and slammed into the back of vehicles ahead. The impact triggered a chain reaction involving multiple vehicles.
Denchai reportedly told police that he had been tired and fell asleep while driving, causing him to lose control and crash into the stationary traffic.
CCTV footage reviewed by investigators showed the black vehicle approaching the intersection before crashing into the rear of several vehicles waiting at the red light.
Police conducted a breathalyser test on the driver, which returned a negative result.
Authorities are continuing to examine the CCTV footage and interview the driver, injured victims and other witnesses to establish the circumstances of the crash and determine what legal action should follow.
