A man in China was shocked to discover an iron nail embedded in a mooncake after turning it over before eating it.
The man, identified as Qin, told Baixing Guanzhu that the mooncake had been purchased by a neighbouring shopkeeper in Longtan Town.
Qin said the nail was found lodged in the bottom of the mooncake when it was flipped over.
He said he was relieved that the foreign object was spotted in time, as swallowing the nail could have resulted in serious consequences.
Qin said he chose not to lodge a complaint or seek action against the mooncake manufacturer or relevant authorities as nobody was actually injured.
Instead, he posted a video of the discovery on social media, where it attracted attention from netizens.
At around 4pm on Sept 10, reporters contacted Wangsi Food Processing Factory in Youyang County.
The person in charge, identified as Wang, said the business was a small handmade workshop and admitted that it was difficult to completely prevent such incidents.
He said the factory would strengthen supervision of its production processes to prevent foreign objects from entering its products.
Meanwhile, an official from the Youyang County Market Supervision and Administration Bureau told Baixing Guanzhu that the matter had been reported to the relevant supervisor.
The authorities would work with the Longtan Market Supervision and Administration Office to visit the site, verify what happened and handle the matter accordingly.
