A man allegedly killed his wife in a jealous rage before dumping her body into a drainage channel by the roadside in Desa Kalianget, Kecamatan Banyuglugur, Situbondo, East Java, Indonesia.
The victim, identified as 34-year-old Murtafia Rafika Dewi, was found dead in a water channel along a road in the northern coastal area of Situbondo, local authorities confirmed.
Situbondo Police Criminal Investigation Unit chief AKP Selimat said the suspect, identified only as R, later surrendered himself to police.
He reportedly confessed to repeatedly striking the victim on the head with a stone, with investigators stating that jealousy was the suspected motive behind the brutal killing.
Police said several pieces of evidence have been collected to assist in the ongoing investigation.
An autopsy on the victim’s remains was conducted by forensic teams at Abdoer Rahem Hospital in Situbondo.
The incident has shocked the local community, with the victim’s death also leaving a deep impact on staff at RSU Besuki, where she was believed to have worked as a midwife.
