A police officer is under criminal investigation following an incident on Friday in which he allegedly struck a collapsed woman on a road while attempting to assist her.
The incident involved an officer in his 20s who is now accused of causing death by negligent driving.
According to an officer at Michuhol Police Station in Incheon, the officer was dispatched to the scene after receiving a report of a woman in her 60s lying on the road.
However, at around 12.45am local time, the patrol car driven by the officer is believed to have hit the woman.
Investigators said the area was poorly lit, and the officer reportedly did not notice the victim on the road.
Authorities are currently reviewing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and conducting further investigations to determine whether an arrest warrant will be issued.
It is understood that a sergeant who was seated in the passenger seat at the time of the incident is not expected to face any action.
