A 21-year-old woman died in Brazil on Saturday after being released from a platform about 40 metres high during a rope jumping activity without a safety harness properly attached, according to local authorities, as reported by Xinhua.
The incident took place at the Ponte do Esqueleto Bridge in Limeira, a city in the southeastern state of São Paulo.
Authorities said the operator of the activity failed to install the necessary safety equipment, resulting in the victim falling and striking the ground.
Video footage circulating on social media showed several individuals bringing the woman to the jump site. Moments after she was released, screams were heard when onlookers realised that no safety rope had been secured.
Officials said two suspects attempted to flee into a nearby forest following the incident but were later tracked down during a search operation.
In total, six individuals were detained to assist police investigations.
Emergency responders, including fire and medical teams, were dispatched to the scene, but the woman was pronounced dead on site.
