Streamer Furious As Viewers Use Restaurant QR Code To Place RM42k In Orders Behind His Back

Date:

An American livestreamer was left fuming after viewers allegedly exploited a QR code accidentally shown on camera to order food worth 1.6 million yen (RM42,000) without his knowledge at a restaurant in Japan.

The incident, which has since gone viral on social media, involved streamer Nicholas Fosco, better known as Lacy, who was dining with his girlfriend, Darla Claire, at Zauo Shibuya restaurant in Japan on Thursday.

Lacy was broadcasting live on Twitch when the restaurant’s QR code, used by customers to place food orders, was inadvertently captured by his camera.

The exposure allegedly allowed viewers to scan the code and place multiple additional orders without his knowledge.

He only realised something was wrong when restaurant staff approached his table to confirm the orders.

Lacy was reportedly shocked to discover that the total bill for the additional orders had reached 1.6 million yen, equivalent to around RM42,000.

He became angry with the viewers responsible, expressing frustration that they had treated the incident as a joke while creating problems for the restaurant.

However, Zauo Shibuya later clarified that customers would only be charged for food they actually consumed, as staff would verify every order with diners.

In a statement quoted by Dexerto yesterday, the restaurant said some of the fraudulent orders had already been prepared before staff realised what was happening.

As a result, the food had to be discarded because the orders had not been placed by genuine customers.
