What began as a leisure snorkelling trip to Samae San ended with a police arrest after a man was allegedly caught secretly recording a woman inside a public restroom.
The incident occurred at around 2pm on May 31 at the parking area of a tour boat facility in Samae San, Sattahip District.
Police were alerted after members of the public reported that a woman had discovered a man allegedly filming her while she was inside a restroom. Bystanders quickly intervened and managed to detain the suspect before officers arrived at the scene.
The suspect, identified only as 35-year-old Mr. Chayut, was reportedly among tourists visiting the area for a snorkelling excursion.
Upon inspection of his mobile phone, police allegedly found a video clip believed to have been recorded inside the restroom and linked to the incident.
According to authorities, the suspect admitted to recording the footage during initial questioning.
He was immediately taken into custody and transported to Sattahip Police Station for further investigation and legal action.
Meanwhile, the 27-year-old female victim was invited to provide a formal statement to assist investigators.
A witness, a 31-year-old man, told police that he and his girlfriend had been snorkelling in the coral reef area before returning to shore to shower.
While at the facility, they suddenly heard a woman screaming for help and claiming that she had been secretly filmed inside the restroom.
The witness said his girlfriend rushed to assist the victim while he, together with members of the diving crew, confronted and detained the suspect to prevent him from leaving the scene.
Police later arrived and took control of the situation before escorting the suspect away for questioning.
The case has sparked concern among visitors and locals alike, with many calling for stricter monitoring and security measures at public tourist facilities to ensure the safety and privacy of visitors.
Authorities are continuing their investigation and are expected to determine additional charges based on the evidence obtained from the suspect’s mobile device.
