A woman died shortly after leaving a haunted house attraction in Indonesia, with initial investigations suggesting she may have suffered a heart attack after being startled during the experience.
The incident involved a 39-year-old woman identified as BNW from Desa Beji, Boyolangu district in Tulungagung, East Java, on Wednesday.
Initial findings by authorities indicated that the victim was believed to have experienced a cardiac episode after being frightened by the haunted house performance.
Tulungagung Police Pamapta officer Ipda Hendra Endy Purwanto said BNW had visited the shopping centre with her child before entering the haunted house attraction alone.
“She entered the haunted house by herself. About five minutes later, she came out with other visitors and sat on a chair.
“However, she collapsed while attempting to stand up again and lost consciousness. Staff at the complex provided emergency assistance and contacted medical personnel,” he said.
Hendra said examinations conducted by staff from RSUD dr Iskak together with the Tulungagung Police Criminal Investigation Unit’s INAFIS team found that the woman had a history of hypertension.
The condition was reportedly discovered recently during a medical examination for prospective pilgrims, and she had also fainted several times while in Saudi Arabia.
The victim’s body was later taken to the Forensic and Medicolegal Unit at RSUD dr Iskak Tulungagung for further arrangements.
Her family accepted the incident as a tragedy and decided not to proceed with a post-mortem examination, according to reports.
