A 25-year-old woman died after being swept away by a strong current and plunging more than 100 metres from the top of Robo Waterfall in West Sumatra, Indonesia.
Metro TV reported yesterday that the incident occurred on Thursday in Lima Puluh Kota Regency, with the victim’s body later recovered by rescue teams.
The incident was captured in a video that has since gone viral on social media. The footage showed the woman lying in the flowing water at the top of the waterfall before she was suddenly swept away by the current and fell over the edge.
The victim was identified as Windy Rahma Putri, a resident of Padang Pariaman. She had visited the popular tourist destination with several friends on Thursday to enjoy the natural surroundings and cool waterfall waters.
Rescuers faced difficulties retrieving her body due to the challenging terrain and hazardous conditions surrounding the waterfall.
“Working at a difficult location like this requires more safety equipment,” said Lima Puluh Kota Regency SAR team chief Roni yesterday.
The woman’s body was subsequently taken to a nearby house before being handed over to her family.
