An attempt by a group of foreigners to set up an exclusive entertainment club equipped with security control systems was thwarted after authorities raided a premises along Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur yesterday.
Immigration Department director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the 11.45am operation resulted in the arrest of 109 men from China, Bangladesh, Myanmar and India, aged between 30 and 43, for various immigration offences.
He said the raid was carried out after a three-week intelligence operation following public complaints over the presence of a large number of foreigners at the location.
The operation targeted the 18th and 24th floors of Tower One and Tower Three, where the individuals were found carrying out renovation works at several units within the commercial building.
“During the raid, the premises were believed to be undergoing preparation to operate as an exclusive entertainment club equipped with multiple layers of security systems and tightly controlled access points,” he said.
Zakaria said the security arrangements were believed to have been designed to restrict public entry and prevent activities inside the premises from being detected by authorities.
Initial investigations found that most of the foreigners involved had entered Malaysia using social visit passes but were suspected of engaging in employment activities without permission.
He added that such actions were a violation of the conditions attached to their respective passes, and further investigations are ongoing.
